If you’re in a bind, you can polish your silver items with household supplies. I explain everything in the video. If the item you want to polish is antique, it may be best to sell it with the patina it has. this process is could be taking off a layer of the silver so use this method at your own risk! You don’t want to bring down the value if you have a collectible.
The examples I used were silver plate and it really helped them shine. I like the look of shiny silver because it looks like it is being used. When I decorate I want the silver items to pop. For the instructions and supplies hit the play button above and watch the video. You want to make sure you don’t leave the items in for too long. You also need to put it in a well ventilated area so the fumes don’t get to you.
Make sure the whole piece is covered in the solution or you will miss spots. If you have an expensive piece, it would be better for you to take the time to go out and buy silver polish. It really isn’t that expensive and only a little bit is need to buff out the patina. It can last for a very long time. I made this video only to demonstrate that you can get by with this quick rinse if you have company coming over.
If there isn’t a lot of patina you should be able to buff it out with just a soft rag and not worry about chemicals at all. try that before you do anything. you won’t have to worry about a layer of silver coming off especially if you have silver plate items.
As always make sure it is worth your time to polish the items. If you aren’t going to make much money off of your silver items you may just want to forget about putting in the time. You need to know how much you are making per hour so you don’t work your butt off cleaning items for minimum wage! And don’t waste time to polish silver!
